In my third year of university, I started work on a composition for string orchestra that I planned to dedicate to my first composition teacher, Stephen Brown. For the opening, I chose to have the strings play the entire theme pizzicato (plucking). The theme starts almost march-like and then gets very animated, at one point featuring “Bartok pizzicato” in the first violins. After reaching a climax, the first variations begins with a much slower tempo and a more mysterious tone.
Unfortunately, due to other commitments I had to lay the project aside and was never able to find time to complete it.
